Alpha — now seating tables
Castle VTT is a self-hosted virtual tabletop. One app on your machine, one click to go online, and your players join free from any browser. Your maps, your rules, your data — no subscription, no cloud.
Builder & leveling
Guided character creation for Pathfinder 2e and D&D 5e, built straight from your compendium — ancestries, backgrounds, and classes, including anything your GM homebrews. Level up from 1 to 20 with every choice tracked and free to revisit later. All twelve 5e classes and their SRD subclasses, all six PF2e classes and their class paths, out of the box. Run milestone or XP leveling per room, and start a campaign at any level. Multiclass freely — split levels across two or more classes, and each keeps its own spell slots and progression.

Playable sheets
Every attack and spell rolls straight from the sheet — server-rolled dice, crits, and degrees of success included. Spell slots spend and refresh on their own, short-rest pact magic included, alongside hit dice, concentration, and a game clock that tracks timed effects. Conditions and active effects aren’t cosmetic — they change the math they’re supposed to change.

The table
Dynamic lighting with real walls and doors, per-token vision and senses — darkvision, tremorsense, cones — and fog of war that remembers what the party has explored. Drop a torch on a token and the shadows move with it. Conditions and active effects ride along as glyph badges on the token, so the whole table reads who’s frightened, hasted, or hidden at a glance.

Rules engine
A full PF2e Remaster engine: the three-action economy enforced at the table, multiple attack penalty, four degrees of success, conditions that actually change the math, and spell saves resolved server-side. Character creation and leveling run on that same engine, so a build that’s legal at the table is legal all the way to level 20. Prefer something else? It plays D&D 5e, Old-School Essentials, and free-form generic too.

Player tools
Players place their own AoE templates and the canvas captures who’s caught in them. Reaction and opportunity-attack prompts surface the moment they trigger — no waiting on the GM to remember. A quick-action favorites bar keeps your go-to rolls one click away, and token elevation now folds into range and area checks. Drag the ruler to measure a path and it prices difficult terrain into the true movement cost, not just the straight-line distance. Inventory tracks equipment and currency so your sheet matches what your hero is actually carrying.

Voice & video
Voice chat and opt-in camera video run peer-to-peer between your players. Nothing routes through a cloud, nothing to configure, no port forwarding. And when the goblin talks back: built-in voice changers — goblin, giant, demon, ghost, robot, chipmunk — with a DM kill-switch.

Migration
Import from Foundry and Roll20 with staged review. Drop in a map and the grid detects itself — one click, or calibrate with a drag box when the map is stubborn. A personal art library with a built-in token cropper keeps your assets one search away.

The alpha
Everything above, in real weekly games. This isn’t a demo — it’s the tool we run our own tables on.
Sharp edges. You’ll find bugs, occasionally mid-session. Some features are days old. Fixes arrive in updates your app installs itself.
The alpha is free for accepted DMs. In return, run real sessions and tell us what broke, what dragged, and what delighted. That’s it.

Questions
No, and they never pay. Only the DM buys Castle VTT. Players open an invite link in any browser and set up a login on your server — there is no account with us, no seat limit, and no per-player cost.

No. One click on “Go online” gives you a shareable link — the app handles the plumbing.
